Golden State Warriors moved from Oakland to San Francisco
The team is called Golden State for the state nickname of California.
The Golden State Warriors are currently based out of San Francisco, Calif. They play at Chase Center, which opened up in 2019.
Prior to the opening of the new arena in San Francisco, the team played at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. That was Golden State’s home from 1971 until 2019. Before Oracle Arena, the team played at San Francisco Civic Auditorium (1964-66) and the Cow Palace (1962-64, 1966-71).
The team was previously known as the San Francisco Warriors from 1962-71 and the Philadelphia Warriors from 1946-62.
